I am fortunate enough to have lived for a few years in a house overlooking the Deben. I have frequently seen military helicopters flying well below the level of the trees at The Rocks. Also, on one occasion, a Spitfire.

Yes it is but if it was below 150 m (I think) it was the heli that was breaking the law

I have no knowledge of Aviation rules, but maybe military a/c are exempt when on training missions? Also I believe rules are different over water?

We know someone who flies an Apache so I will ask him next time I see him.
To my knowledge there are rules even for military aircraft and I am aware that people do complain - personally I think that they need to train for reality on our behalf and if that causes us a little inconvenience so be it.

I agree totally but I also complain bitterly!
When they turn up near your home at around 11pm night after night, often for several hours, it can be a challenge to remain objective.In fairness, I suppose they rotate their practice areas - we usually enjoy their presence for about a week then tend to be spared for the next two or three.

Yes, I guess if it happens all the time it might wear a bit thin. We were overflown by an Apache on the Broads and it was very, very low and an impressive sight. I wouldn’t want to be on the business end of one!

Up until 1993, the largest fighter wing in the US Air Force was based at Woodbridge and Bentwaters. Although the A10 tankbusters they mainly flew weren't too noisy, there were lots of them.

In my school days, the 81st tactical fighter wing flew F4 phantoms out of Bentwaters. They were definitely noisy - very noisy.

Military aircraft as far as I know have a normal minimum height and then a reduced minimum height in specified areas at specified times for training. I would positively welcome a few visits from below-mast-height attack helicopters in my neck of the woods (which is not the Deben) if they could please blow up the jetskis while they're at it.

It is apparently not only blue RIBs that can transgress. Yesterday a yellow one came tanking past me at Stone Point, so if anyone knows them they might like to pass on the message that the speed limit in the Walton Channel applies to all craft and they were wasting their time in trying to give me a cheery wave.
