We have recently acquired a Blue Peter Dinghy (8 foot) with no equipment whatsoever. Can anyone help please with information - especially of what is needed for sailing - sail dimensions, plans or anything which might help set up and rig this boat.

You'll need 27 toilet roll tubes, some pipe cleaners, some paper fasteners and lots of sticky backed plastic. oh and John Noakes to say "Here's one I made earlier..."

Good luck!

Re: John Noakes?

So far as I know, he is still alive and kicking. If I remember rightly, he used to spend about 10 months a year sailing in the Med as a liveaboard, then came back to the UK for 2 months at Christmas to do Panto to finance the next 10 months in the Med. At some point, one of his boats was lost in bad weather in the Balearics, but the insurers must have paid up, because he got another one.

A few years back, there was a completely mad stage show called "Gone with Noakes", done by a guy called Dave Gorman. Presented in a faintly stalker-ish manner, it recounted the story of JN's time at Blue Peter (including the heart wrenching story of Shep's death), with much muttering about how Peter Purves got all the cushy jobs and spent his time chatting up Lesley Judd, whilst JN got all the tough assignments, bruising his bum on the Cresta Run etc. It culminated with a slide show of Dave Gorman's visit to Majorca, where he commandeered a dinghy and rowed out to Noakes' boat. There are lots of photos of a very confused JN wondering who on earth the nutter in the dinghy is, and why he is taking pictures of him.

Gorman went on to do a show, and very successful book, called "Are you Dave Gorman?" (or something similar) in which he travelled around the world trying to track down 52 people with the same name as his. He succeeded, but only by virtue of a bit of a con (he got half a dozen people to change their names by deed poll). Completely barking.............

I suspect there are hundreds of John Noakes websites.

Re: John Noakes?

He does adverts.. well the voices in the adverts for the canine defence league I think too.

I remember him on Go with Noakes sailing up the Caledonia Canal.. I always thought he was a super bloke..

Still can't blame Peter Purves for chatting up Lesley Judd.. I had a huge crush on her when I was about 6...
