The preceived progressive "shortening" of each pasing year is simply the effect of having lived for longer. Each subsequent year lived is perceived to pass more speedily that the last, because in fact it is actually proportionally a decreasing fraction of your whole life to date. So, a 5 year old will feel his sixth year as 1/6 of his life, whereas a 40 year old only as one fortieth. Thus quite often old people who seem to do bugger all always say that they are "busy", whereas young people are "bored" - it's simple a comment on the perceived rate at which a year passes in proportion to their whole life to date. Eventually, you will feel as though mealtimes come around every five minutes and christmas is once a fortnight. I beleive that you die at about this point.
One theory is that as you get older, your heart rate speeds up and thus time appears to pass more quickly but I agree with you that this year seems to have flown by
tcm, thats an absolute load of hairy round ones, from a guy who cant remember where he parked his car!! the older you get the longer time passes. IE: it takes me a lot longer to pull a bird than it used to! it takes me a lot longer to pull on my socks than it used to!
Time slows down with the passing of age, it takes me (and you ) longer to walk from the flat end of the boat to the pointy end.
I rest my case.

Well tcm's explanation sounded quite convincing to me /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif. Glad it's not just me that thinks the years are passing quicker the older one gets. At the current rate when I turn 50 I expect my year to last untill a perceived June.
