Maybe finally got Alice Too sorted.

When I brought her back fron Christchurch all was well, but the port boost gauge was dropping to 0 then back up which I thought was the instrument. Then I read the book and it suggested almost certainly air in the fuel system.

So, I set about replacing the CAV spinners for a see through pre filter on each engine then changed the secondary pairs of filters. (they were full of muck)

Ran smoothly then the port engine stopped, diagnosed by sea start as the lift pump, so bought a new one (and a spare) duly fitted it and all smooth again, until the engine stopped, took off the pre filter and full of sludge. A bottle of GrotoMar 71 in each tank and "polished" the fuel. A battery drill pump and a pipe from the pre filter back to the tank for a couple of hours.

After a couple of runs without breaking down I thought I'd check the filters again, on careful inspection I discovered; 1, one perspex bowl was cracked, 2, I'd doubled up the "O" rings at the top of the filter (hence the diesel weep, stupid schoolboy error on my part) and the last filter bleed screw had been loctited into the housing by the previous owner, because it wasn't a bleed screw but a normal bolt, hence another diesel weep!

So new perspex bowl, one top "O" ring on each of the filters all replaced (6) new bleed screw and finally, no diesel weep.

Hoping now that until the next 100 hour service I can leave the bleeding engines alone!

BTW filters on line at £1.24 each! www.inlinefilters.co.uk

Hmm

Am I the only one wondering whether you need the (2) lift pump(s) at all then......

Yes there is that, the one I took off I stripped down and the small washer in the middle fell apart so I think it was on the way out if indeed it hadn't already failed?

Spare one will do no harm
