Hi all, I hope you don't mind a mobo bod coming onto Scuttle B cap in hand asking for money :)

I've been brought up on a good dose of 'you don't ask, you don't get' so I thought I'd chance my other arm on here... see this thread where I chanced my first arm (http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?386312-Blatant-non-boaty-plug-for-your-hard-earned).

This post is a request asking you to bolster the donations my son (Jamie) has received so far for an event we've both entered to cycle 100km between London and Brighton overnight on the 20th September in aid of Breast Cancer research.

The kindly folk of the mobo forum have been amazingly generous (a massive understatement) having donated over £1k in the last 24hrs via my Just Giving page. My son has got his Just Giving page up and running today and is hoping to raise sufficient donations (£100) to secure his place in the event.

Jamie is a student and will be seeking donations through his part time workplace and student union but typically, his immediate friends and colleagues have very little for their own needs never mind giving to charity so hopes are not particularly high that he'll reach the levels of donations required to take part in the ride, hence me posting this message asking for help.

His mum and one of her friends have got him off to a good start but he needs more. £100 by 9th August and £200 by the 19th Sept. Jamie was also adamant that he would cover the £20 entry fee, which he has done.

Furthermore, I'll be cycling with a good mate (along with my son) who's beaten cancer (thus far), a young lady nicknamed 'little Deb' in her late 30's who's been super dooper fit (kick boxer) all her life until the disease decided it was her turn to give it a kicking a year ago. Little Deb got her nickname from her netball mates, my missus, was 'big Deb' playing in the same team. Little Deb is fit enough now to take part in the cycle ride with this event being one of many things she does as a sort of payback for the wonderful help she's received over the last 12 months in beating the big C. We're both getting involved to do likewise as frankly, she's been a inspiration to me, Jamie and many of our friends, including my wife.

Again, I do hope you do decide to contribute, it'd be greatly appreciated if you did.

Here's Jamie's Just Giving page: http://www.justgiving.com/jamie-pearson3
should you decide to do so.

Kindest Regards Gary

Thanks Mirror Painter and 2 x Anonymous folk who have donated. I've let Jamie know you've responded to our request for help and he's very grateful. I'll ask him to join YBW so he can pop in here and say thank you in person.

thanks again guys :encouragement:

thanks for another Anonymous donation, what a forum this is, so many generous people behind the keyboard :encouragement: another £30 and there's no backing down for the lad :)

Hello son, welcome to the wibbly wobbly world that is YBW :) I see you've had a couple of generous donations from Roger and DannyB (thanks very much guys :encouragement: ). As Roger says, no turning back now, not that you'd ever contemplate such a thing :) Looking forward to doing this one with you mate

Thank you for your generous donation Roger Rat! Seems you have put me in the position of no backsies aha ;) but as Dad has said, would never have dreamt of backing out anyways!

Again a big thank you!

And thank you to Danny B and to Scuttlebutter, didn't realize this forum was full of such generous people! You have helped me out BIG TIME and all these donations are going to such a very worthy cause!

Now its time to get the ol' man into shape! Certainly the next big challenge ;) aha. Only kidding ;)

Fantasie19 and Colhel, just spotted your kind and creative donation in my Just Giving page, thanks very much guys really appreciated that you've turned a piece of work into a donation. :encouragement:

Yay, we did it and bloody hard work it was too.

The charity folk set a challenging route through a number of hilly sections and then to top it off, had us bike to the sea front and then about a mile back up to the finish line at Brighton Race course, very steep and not what you want after biking for several hours through the early hours with no sleep. We stopped off for a total of about an hour all told at the 3 'refuelling' stops and took about 8 hours in total to complete the ride setting off at 11:30pm.

Lots of accidents along the way with folk falling off their bikes in the fast downhill sections, I hope nobody was seriously hurt, it kept the ambulances busy that's for sure!. We were diverted for around 5 miles in London due to a car fire which resulted in us all doing 70 miles all told rather than the 65 we were meant to. All in all, a very gratifying accomplishment undertaken with my best mate (son) for a massively worthy cause.

It leaves me to post the evidence of us at the finishing line and to extend a huge thank you to all of you that have dug deep to contribute to the £2280 raised for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity :encouragement:

May (maybh1) and Simon (sishoe), thanks so much for your additional donations yesterday
