I've got a Taylors diesel cooker and a Baby Blake toilet on my boat - and in the past when I needed spares I called BLT and a knowledgeable person helped me identify the part and I got it within a day or so.

Today I called them only to learn that they no longer supply owners directly and that I would have to go through a Chandler - and ,sorry. there wasn't anyone available to identify the part.

I was offered a choice of national mail-order chandlers - none of whose names filled me with confidence - but I chose one and called them. Sorry, they would have to call BLT to find the part number 0 mand they didn't call back.

Can anyone recommend a chandler who knows the Taylor cooker product.

I suppose that I'll have to buy a parts book - but now Blakes Lavac Taylor are no longer giving a premium service, they'll have to stop charging premium prices for their product - why pay £1000+ for a sea toilet?

Classic Marine, 01394 380390, or http://www.classicmarine.co.uk, and you need Moray McPhail himself for this one.

Irritating, isn't it? (Baby and Taylors Para-fin cooker)

Blakes should take a leaf out of Barbour's book if they want to set themselves up as purveyors of Ancient British Kit to the Nobility and Gentry - Barbours used to make stuff for fishermen and motorcyclists but now they seem to find it better to sell to fly fishermen and would-be country gentlemen. However, they very sensibly deal with questions from the public and accept old kit for repair from the public, although they only sell through retailers.

We NEED to talk so one of the sensible people who used to be on the end of a phone!

They will sell you a set of four, with good reason - if one has sheared, it may well be time to replace the other three! Not a big job and really a part of routine maintenance that surveyors used to insist on.

Mine are glassed in to the hull, which makes replacement a bit of a pain (we did the heads outlet last year) but adds security. I've had a lengthy ongoing debate with the guy who replaced it without glassing in the new one, and I guess we'll have to agree to differ on the merits of each method.

Thoroughly agree about replacing all if one goes. They are phosphor bronze, which is easy to shear.

If you start here you should at least be able to identify your cooker and the part numbers for the various spares kits. Their site also lists UK distributors including Aladdins Cave, so a follow up call should solve your immediate problems.

Or Classic Marine, I just got some 2" x 5/16" at a bit under 3 quid per bolt, washer and nut. Expensive, but not as expensive as the alternative!

In fact Mailspeed Marine (who weren't the distributor I contacted) PM'd me within an hour or so and offered to sort me out.

The point I was making in my original post was that a few months ago I could have rung Blakes; got an answer in seconds; paid for the goods with a debit card and got them delivered the next day.

... and Sainsburys used to sell broken biscuits from big square tins.. ah well, that's progress
