Blakes Lavac, bowl always full of sea water on return to boat...

My previous boat had a Lavac and had a printed sign on the bulkhead giving instructions for use. This sign was probably included when the toilet was originally purchased, and a copy can probably still be obtained from the manufacturer. It would be very useful if you regularly have guests on board.

Yep, I have that proudly displayed in heads.

The lavac doesn't have that type of pump, but has one similar to a manual bilge pump, (diaphragm, I think).

The inlet valve is a flapper style with a solid plate that allows the waste to push against it without flipping the valve flap back out towards the bowl, the outlet valve is the standard joker valve that seals against itself commonly found in discharge manifolds of other toilets. Taylor's Lavac just call it an outlet valve.

I have wondered if the term joker was because it looks like a jesters cap (although you get single slit joker valves as well), or if it was a corruption of choker, which is sort of how the valve the valve works by squeezing itself together. Just idle musings.

An old thread, I know, but since it comes up first in Google search....
I had this problem and fiddling with the siphon break didn't cure it. What cured it was tightening the Jubilee clips! Although no water was leaking, I guess that air must have been bleeding in at one of the joints.
About a year ago I had replaced all the toilet hoses, most of the clips, stripped and refurbished the pump and valves and the seacocks, prior to going off cruising. But in just a year most of the clips had loosened slightly. A quarter turn or less on each fixed my problem.
Now I'll have to go round the boat checking the tightness of every fitting that I've put in over the five year refit, just to be sure ?
