Bit of ranting - Cost of Volvo Penta parts

I'm after a new power steering oil cooler. Not a very complicated piece of copper piping and definitely not worth £500 being asked. £365 is lowest price so far. Why can a far more complicated car radiator cost less than this. Just a shear VP rip off.
A pattern part from the USA was £145 but after tax, shipping and duties its no cheaper.

...US Yanmar dealers can lose the franchise if they discount and ship out of their area....

When we had Yanmar seawater pump problems in the USA I found and bought the Johnson equivalent (they make them for Yanmar) for <1/3rd of the OEM unit, I passed the word around - probably on here - and heard back that you couldn't buy the Johnson pump needed for the 'European Yanmar' which i got in the USA anywhere in Europe - presumably their Yanmar contract restricts outside sales? Over two trips home from the US we brought seven of them back for various people.

Had I still been working in my motorbike shop I could have had a lazer cut solid copper gasket made for far less money and made a valve myself from a high quality racing motorcycle valve.

On the MD6A engine mentioned earlier we got a head gasket and an exhaust gasket 'made' and our leaking cast-iron/steel elbow was braised/welded, then encased in epoxy - that was exciting to watch! - and paid about £30 for the lot; it was worth that price just for entertainment value of watching those guys work! The shop almost next door serviced and overhauled (one was re-tipped!) the Bosch injectors for £9 each too; when I mentioned that back at Marmaris Marina, there must've been two dozen over-wintering boats pulled their injectors for a service before spring.

what is OE?
There's lots of conflicting definitions out there but my understanding is that OE parts have the same quality of OEM parts but are more affordable as you're not paying for a brand name. For example, VP take an OE part and stick a logo on it and sell you an OEM part. The OE product is of the same quality / specification. An aftermarket part is a copy / replacement for the OE/OEM part which is typically not quite as good but could be better if the design has been improved.

Have you spoken to any companies specialising in recoring radiators / oil coolers? I don't know if it would be cheaper but it would be worth asking the question.

Also had a few offers for used coolers but it’s the not knowing how good they are on the inside.
