Biscuits on Board

I was doing some work with a global bank a few years back and I arrived for a meeting with one of the bosses just as another chap was leaving. "Do you know who that was?" he asked me. "No idea," says I. "He's our biscuit consultant," he volunteered, with an absolute straight face. He was not having a laugh. Apparently it was crucial to have the right stuff for the appropriate meeting i.e Rich Tea for the peasants; Bahlsen choccies for the higher ups. Never did find out what the Board got to dunk. I suspect in these austere times the biscuit man's job has crumbled away, but I wondered what biscuits we should choose for certain voyages. Caramel digestives offer good structural integrity in a seaway, while Jammy Dodgers or Oreos might keep the watch occupied on long hauls.

I never had Oreos, until this week. Vanilla ones. Much too sweet! Really sickly. I had difficulty finishing the packet. There were some left, even after lunch.

Ships biscuits of course :D

They last best with weevils.

Which of those is the lesser of two .....

I'll get my coat.

I wouldn't have done, till I Googled it just now. But I recalled the frightful TV advertising jingle from the 1970s..."Weebles wobble but they don't fall down". :o

It shakes my faith in the government of the years of my boyhood, to think that TWO of those technicolour thermoplastic monstrosities might have been constructed in a sane world, opposed to cruel and unusual schooling...but if indeed there were several weebles, and assuming there were ever two in one place at one time, I feel certain that the lesser of two weebles would be the best.

Any biscuit is fine if it's kept in a "Lock N' Lock" box.
Fine in the cockpit in a downpour. Fine when the crest of a wave dumps itself in the cockpit.

How about flapjacks? The gooey caramel ones. I mean, if they begin to go soft, who's going to notice?

Or, those shortbread smothered in caramel with a thin layer of choc on top. Except, they always use cooking chocolate, which never seems to taste of anything. Still damned good, though. No chance of any lying about long enough to go soft...
