I was doing some work with a global bank a few years back and I arrived for a meeting with one of the bosses just as another chap was leaving. "Do you know who that was?" he asked me. "No idea," says I. "He's our biscuit consultant," he volunteered, with an absolute straight face. He was not having a laugh. Apparently it was crucial to have the right stuff for the appropriate meeting i.e Rich Tea for the peasants; Bahlsen choccies for the higher ups. Never did find out what the Board got to dunk. I suspect in these austere times the biscuit man's job has crumbled away, but I wondered what biscuits we should choose for certain voyages. Caramel digestives offer good structural integrity in a seaway, while Jammy Dodgers or Oreos might keep the watch occupied on long hauls.
