Popped into the show earlier, as I was passing anyway. I didn't realise it's the Caravan Club day today, so the place was heaving, but the boat hall was reasonably quiet.

I think the boat part of the show is really aimed at buyers of sports boats and small cruisers, and there was a reasonable selection of US boats from the usual suspects, Regal, Maxum, Crownline etc. There was also 2 or 3 RIB stands.

There is one row of larger boats, and I had a nose on some of them, but I think it's of limited appeal to buyers of larger boats, because of course there aren't the other brands there to compare them to.

A few observations. I wasn't overly impressed with the F/L Targa 38, there's a ridiculous GRP beam along the top of the windscreen that spoils your view (which isn't needed as there's no hard top), and the bland interior looked like it belonged in Hall 2.

I quite liked the Cruisers Yachts 33, as it manages to look fairly streamlined from the outside, but huge down below, although that's mostly because it's all open plan. I think I prefer it open plan on boats that size, and the interior looked up-market and inviting in matt cherry.

I'm a big fan of the Sealine 35SC, I think it's their best boat currently. Most hardtops this size have a very small roof opening, and you have to stick your head out of the roof to stand up, which looks slightly comical. You may not like the Sealine's styling, although I think it's great, but it means you get great helm visibility with a big windscreen, full standing headroom at the helm, and a huge retracting roof that makes it feel almost like an open boat. Interestingly this one had the Silvertex vinyl I mentioned in a previous post, and it's very effective, not that you can really tell from this photo. If I was in the market for a 35 footer for extended UK cruising, then this is Gordon Brown (ie. the one eyed get)

There was a Trader 42, a couple of fugly Cranchi's, a Phantom 40 and some other smaller brands, but I didn't look round them. I did at least manage to get an inflatable green alien for my lad, having been too late at SIBS, so I suppose it was worth going. Still, i'd seen all I needed to after an hour, so I left the caravan club to play travel scrabble and sing ging gang gooley gooley gooley without me.

Going up over the w/e in my motorhome and will be staying on site. Its no more anoraky than boating [im lucky to have both]. Very similar to boating in many ways i just earn more brownie points from swimbo. She tell me she is fed up setting the fenders and warps ,and the general uncertainty after 30 years on the high seas. Now i have all the boat all to myself. Slill get more of a buzz from the boat than the m/h.though.

It seems that not many people are, they appear to have the poorest residuals of any recent Fairline. Although I appreciate they are different boats, it's interesting that you can buy a new T38 for less than you'll pay for a three year old T40.

Cheers

We're going on Saturday for a look around, will not be able to resist a peek in the motor home hall, I love 'em!
Unfortunately I have to choose - boat or motorhome- guess what I chose?

Crazy isn't it. I don 't see the need for that big cross beam on the windscreen either. I still prefer the T37 to the T38.

The T40 is quite a different boat and doesn't really compare. Still one of the best they made in its class. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Me too, by a country mile. In fact if my old T37 came back on the market I would be seriously tempted, I loved it.

"that big cross beam"
To give the boat some torsional strength, perhaps as hulls get lighter and lighter(flimsier and flimsier) cross bracing is needed to stop the whole thing twisting because of ever more powerful engines or plain old fashioned wave action. ?
Remember the poppy out windows in that Sealine ?

Yes, well said. We'll be there on Friday, can't wait. It's a double whammy for us as we are boaters and caravanners and, yes we're members of The Caravan Club.
Don't have matching jackets though, might sort that on Friday! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Mind you, it's matching recliners which are a real 'must have'!!

Shameless plug but not only can you visit the MBM stand (and subscribe) there this year (by the main entrance) you can also visit our sister title Motor Caravan and subscribe there too!!

We have editorial and ad staff as well as marketing (me) and publishing staff there all week I will be on the stand on Saturday and Sunday so please come and say hello, matching jackets and all.

Adding to that I think its fair to say that there is no other industry (maybe airline / army) where the use of matching clothing is so extreme!! Take Cowes high street for instance...

to be honest I prefare the 38 buy a big percentage
why
I will give you my points:
- the cockpit works and is comfy
- big bathing platform to store a tender of any size
- and the interior is more or less the same as the 40 and I love the oak as with lighter colors
- it also has a good place for a passrelle
what I dont know is the seakeeping
but they also improved the fitting for the 38, thicker ss and so and I prefare the the windshield too
the T40
has many minuses like a cockpit which is made for mice really and a tender garage that if you fit a 2 mtr rib you are lucky, then on the positive it has a great hull coming from the old T38/39
hands down for the T38 anytime, she is a great boat for its size and among the best minus the price altough it is cheap for us EUROS at the moment
if FL would have made this a little more competitive I think it would have sold so much more, they made in begining 2008 available with D4 10k more to B37MC but it might have been a little too late or not

We'll make a point of seeking you out, you can try and convince us to subscribe over a cup of coffee. You're buying of course!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ah, just noticed, you're there sat & sun, we're going friday so we'll miss you. Anyone else we can scrounge a brew off!!
