Whilst I see your point in having a Birchwood Club. I see no reason why you shouldn't use this forum for raising Birchwood issues too. Many people here have owned Birchwoods. (I had a Birchwood Sportsman 35 back in 1979) Those former owners will be interested and may have useful comments to add.
I would like to think the benefits are as follows:
1/ We can compile a history of Birchwoods, we couldn't do that here without it getting lost in the fora!
2/ We can discuss Birchwoods without all the Freeman owners watching /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
2a/ We can share photo's and so on without other boaters thinking we're anoraks, similarly, we can divide our collections of Birchwood cigarette cards, our weekly spottings of cruising Birchwoods leaving Marinas and passing under bridges etc etc.
3/ We can compile a list of parts suppliers, specific technical data etc, by model, as an easy to find reference guide.
It's a question of pride too I suppose. Many boaters seem to love boating, but not all of them seem to love the boats themselves. I have to say, while I love Shamby for her looks and modern features, I prefer the Birchy for what she packs into twenty-five feet, and the superb design features compared to most of the similar late seventies stuff.
I feel she is a modern classic, and that heritage needs a bit of preserving for future generations.
Or am I just a saddo? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Where to get parts, how to fix things and general troubleshooting, pictures etc. its what we need. Sure this forums great and serves the purpose. But we can store such info without it getting lost amongst other posts on here.
Nearly. Thought i'd see if you recognised it.
Its G 14 The boats "Tailspin" your Neighbour.
All this time we've been moored next to each other and we get to speak through the Net!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Gonna be down there tomorrow got the Porta potti cupboard to finish decorating /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
As you may have noticed, Carli needs her topsides washed, and her hull needs a paint to cover up all the old repairs. I want her to look as good as your boat, but we have still got a way to go!
I finally got the Eberspacher working last week. I still want to investigate the flexible water tank/bag with a view to replacing it.
Tonight I had a call from the chap I took the door lock to. It seems he has managed to find a key to fit, and he is going to cut me 2 more.
I replaced the flexible water tank last year with one of those "Plastimo" water tanks from Mailspeed marine. Excellent replacement, as a previous owner removed the old one and fitted a tiny 20 litre solid plastic tank in the side locker instead!!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Its been an expensive year for me this year. Had the engine removed, new sump, engine mounts and the carb Re conditioned. Ouch!!!
