Bilge pump recommendation

Depends how wet your bilge is

In a rib I like the rule computerised pumps

On a yacht I would go for a dumb pump with a float.

If you have a bit of ditrious in the bilge could be better to go for a whale gulper type pump and then a bigger one mounted higher up for emergencies.

On the boats at work we use ulility puppy’s from jabsco they aren’t cheap but the last and the impellers are easily replaced. - in fact they are common with the generator which is handy!
 
Have used the utility puppy type pump in a situation like this with a custom strainer box formed from an inch stainless U bend with holes drilled in it. Manual bilge pump on one side of the U and the auto/electric on the other side.

I’ll take a photo of it later.
 
Can OP's recommend a decent auto bilge pump of over 1000 GPH ? I'm on my second Whale Supersub 1100 where the plastic of the body has basically disintegrated where the pump joins the electrics. I would be prepared to go back to one with a separate float switch.
I had one of these on my previous boat and had a similar experience.

What have Whale said about your pump failures? Their products are usually very good. I have a Whale Watermaster pressure pump, a Whale Gulley IC for the shower drain, and a Whale Supersub (non auto) bilge pump. All have been fine (although the bilge pump hasn't been used as I only have dust in the bilges).

Just fitted one of these: Johnson Pump 1000GPH. Certainly hurled a couple of test buckets of water out at an impressive rate....

Had the same problem with my Whale Supersub 1100 mine broke off so at the advice of a friend (yanmar mechanic) I installed a
Rule mate automatic(integrated float switch) He said they have good reliability hope this helps
 
I am replacing my 'auto in bilge' pump with an 'above bilge' Gulper 320 with an independant float switch.

It's sat at home at the moment waiting for when we are allowed to get to the boat, so I can't comment on it's efficiency but I can say that it is easy to strip and service.

Good pump, same as my shower drain pump, but won't meet the OP's requirement for 1000GPH. Realistically though, no bilge pump will ever cope with a serious leak, so a lower output pump should be fine in most circumstances.
 
The Supersub is tiny. Although it is rated at 650GPH I would imagine it wouldn't last that long at full throttle. I had one fail and replaced it with the Gulper 320 with a remote strum box in the keel and never looked back. 1,140 litres per hour but that is a LOT of water. If you urgently need to shift more than that you probably need a lifeboat with a pump.
 
I’m going to send the dud one back to Whale in NI and see what their response is. I’ve also purchased a new Supersub (due toe space consideration) and will keep the receipt. I notice that in the instructions Whale recommend replacement after 3 years .....
