Bikini girl with patreon account goes sailing somewhere hot

I wish KTL would do more interviews/boat tours. I do love the Andy Baldwin interview and the interview with the blokes on the pontoon at Gainsboroug. I also love the yard tours and walkrounds.
I know what you mean but the KTL highlights for me are the British history lessons with lashings of cynical socialism on top.

Dylan has got the mix about right although I suggest he amps up the colour saturation a tad to help compete with the Aussie babe in blue-water paradise material. It really is time I made a KTL donation.

Wicked Salty was the first youtube vids I watched at length. Nice to see them giving it a go and wish them all the best at being able to get out there longer term.

SV Delos came after that, still probably the best overall. Especially as they seem to mix up the journal of their journey with more general cruiser related info - recent series of kids onboard with SV Totem for instance.

Sailing La Vagabond, whilst having far far too little real content in the earlier days, has come on leaps and bounds as they have got their head around this being a serious funding source for them. It feels a little more forced than Delos though to me, bit more click bait, but good all the same. They have done a few videos about the boat or more sailing related content - the installation of the water maker was interesting to see.

Chase the Story is now the one I probably look forward to as much as Delos. Unlike Delos and SLV, they probably don't need the money to fund their trip, so I think their videos are a bit more concise, covering a few weeks of time or missing out a lot. But their production values have got better and better and they seem a fun couple. Wish they had a bit more sailing/boat content in there though.

If such videos help get people out sailing and support cruisers, seems like a great thing to me.

good analysis

I am getting quite good at asessing these things now

first I go to their home youtube page

then I go to the about page - that tells you how many hits they have had and over what time period

then I go to look at the list of videos and get youtube to order them in number of hits

then I will watch a few of the high hitting ones

then I go to their patreon page via the link they offer to see how much money they are earning

because one of the interesting things is that youtube revenue is negligable

a dollar or two per thousand hits

that leaves two sources of revenue for the project

patreon and sponsorship

these guys do not seem to get much sponsorship so all they have is patreon

and their life savings of course

goodonem for going fot it.

Thanks Jonjo for liking the history and centre left(rationally sound) extrapolations.

I can hardly compete on the bikini front and my cuisine is pretty appalling so I can dribble the odd bit of historical context into what you can see when sailing in a place. Whenver I see a martello tower I always wonder why they thought this one place was worth defending while five miles along the coast there is a harbour just as good but which was left completely undefended.

I am jolly grateful to the blokes who do chip in - it means that I can supercharge my sailing as opposed to just schlepping up and down the same stretch of muddy essex river

one of the things that annoy me about some of the series is the excessively long intros - the same every time

and for all the context they give some of them could be sailing a soap bubble around a washing up bowl

very inward looking - the hedonism makes me uncomfortable

Same here, these might work as a form of branding for the first few episodes however by episode 30... urgh.

The other typical problem is failure to establish geographic and storyline context. Some of these sailing video producers must believe in telepathy, they know where they were at a certain point in the video but what about the viewer. Your videos and the SV Delos series are particularly good at providing regular context updates.

I think Emerald Steel deserves a mention. They started before things went digital so don't have their early stuff in quality but did everything, including building their own steel yacht to sail the south seas (Susie had to learn to weld first) ,and the recent video story is well worth watching.
Drake seems to be stuck in Boston at present and the actual sailing content is fairly incidental. We were spoilt by the early release of the stunning Greenland Fjiord video but since then the series has concentrated on the domestics of cruising and sightseeing the US east coast ports. All interesting but eventually they will get properly underway.

vagabonde are currently earning around 6K per film from patreon

they are regulalrly getting half a million youtube hits per film on youtube - earning them $500 or so from adsense

I agree La vagabonde is thee best on the web the moment

it is well cut together and they really know how to share their adventure

it is still irrelevant to my sort of sailing

in one film they did almost 200 miles in one day and never had to put any foulies on

a centaur would break up at those speeds

cabin heating is not generally an issue for them

sail life - makes my buttocks clench

Ran sailing is alos good - and blimey they have a lovely boat - their patreon income is around $400 per film - which I assume does not go far towards the costs of keeping such a big boat on the water

meanwhile..... ugly old bloke continues to plod on around a small damp island in the atlantic in series of shit boats

my project lacks glamour that is for sure but it has longevity

D

PS - la vagabonde woman has lovely teeth

Definitely Check Out Sailing Over The Horizon Nice Series featuring a Westerly Longbow sailing from the UK down to the med so far.

Sailing UMA is as good as Sailing La Vagabond editing wise and they do alot of boat projects which are interesting. Tho the electric power is clearly controversial ;)

Shaun and Julia Sailing is quite good nice budget sailing in a 26footer season 1 and 2 are quite different so worth checking both out.

A little mention for "Fun with the Foxwells" definitely fun to watch for a fellow from medway.

I agree - it's reality sailing at it's very best. How to fit a quick sail in with daughter's school play rehearsals type of stuff. Sounds boring but actually you quickly realise that that sort of life has just as many challenges as pottering around tropical islands, if not more.

I don't like to be negative about things but I find Fun with the Foxwells a little to AWB/Floating caravan ish. I'm sure they're nice people I just find they come across as a little "keeping up with the Joneses".

Dylan's films I do enjoy as well. It's nice to see what a wonderful island we live on, his get out there and on with it attitude is very appealing. I do wish him all the best on his travels.

I do like the escapism of the exotic films, places I'll more then likely never visit.

I find that an unfair criticism both Dylans Vids and fun with the foxwells alongside Shaun & Julia Sailing and even sailing uma are about practical sailing and about owning a boat. The bikini clad round the world sailing adventures are not for everyone and there is a place for all types just as I dislike soaps on TV but NCIS in its various guises I watch all the time.
The caravanish style in reality is what most of us do. Taking are boats out locally and spending weekends aboard.

Dylan have you considered pitching your vids series to "Community Channel" if it lasts there are similar types of stuff on other subjects on their already.

From what I have gathered about the Foxwells in this thread I don't think I will bother. What makes Dylan's video series special is that it is an adventure and also an attainable venture we can all convince ourselves, that with a little planning and free time, we could do too.

SV Delos is the only one I regularly watch.. Really well done, relaxed and lots of footage of all the places they visit..

Yes, I've spent many a late night watching Delos, very good content and professionally produced. I sent them a few pounds last year and had a very grateful, and unexpected, email from them thanking me. Also enjoy Vagabonde, but their films are shorter and have less real content.
