........ when visiting harbours and marinas ?

When I had a much smaller boat, Harbour Masters often made me move for no particular reason than they seemed to delight in ordering small yachts about to demonstrate their importance. Have others experienced this kind of treatment ?

On the other side of the coin I have seen very large boats get away with the most diabolical tactics without a hoot from these Stalinists ! Particularly on piers where you can only stay for 15 minutes to water up say and the bounders stay there for the whole night !

Vic,

I've had the opposite experience when it comes to suppliers and fitters. My boat is 60' and people seem to think it's an invitation to rip me off. Unnamed B&G agents in the Gosport area continually insist to quote RRP for large jobs (i.e. complete re-instrumentation), and this is not unique. I run my yacht on a very tight budget and, apart from some excellent suppliers such as XW Rigging, I have a struggle getting value for money.

Jammy.

And forget getting fuel in St Vaast or Paimpol. There will be a big power boat there with their RIB positioned so you can not sneak round. They will sit on high and sneer down as you want your few litres of diesel! Never mind, it is cheaper to get it in the CI.
