Hi all we are looking to sell our Beneteau 25.7S we keep in Hythe Marina and get something in the 36ft size - lusting after a Hanse but seem rarer that rocking horse at the moment. I’m hoping more stock will come back onto the market as the Summer season winds down. To help with cost of moving up I’m looking to change to a swing mooring and relinquish our easy aboard park & load up - quite fancy Beaulieu. Interested to hear thoughts from the Forum about any other areas that I should consider - we don’t want to be much more than a 30 min drive from Christchurch. And have spent a few years over in Poole previously & not that keen on going back as we are enjoying the IOW/Chichester and immediate areas for weekends away with the smalls. Cheers.

Your 30 minutes rules out anywhere east of Beaulieu and Lymington, both of which are expensive and difficult to get moorings.

Poole really is the better option and with a 36' Solent is only 4 hours away with the right tides, plus you have the option of going west. You might consider joining Poole or Parkstone clubs both of which have deep water swinging moorings plus access to club marinas and enviable shoreside facilities particularly for families. I am a member of Poole and there is no waiting list to join and usually swinging moorings with launch service or dinghy park. New faily members are very welcome. Call in an d have a look.

If living near Christchurch why not get a boat suitable for the shallow harbour? A trip around the harbour and rivers shows a good mix of suitable boats at around 33 to 36 feet.

Did a few years in CC as part of CSC, I had a Hawk 20 lifting keel which was perfect for the limited access & harbour - we are looking to go fixed keel on the next boat and want to keep the immediate Solent access to hand for a while yet - we make a lot of trips to Bembridge which is a favourite destination for our young kids

Try Marchwood Sailing Club. Member run and very friendly. Moorings + walk ashore pontoon for occasional use & storage ashore during the winter.

I was interested in Hythe myself a year ago but still haven’t taken the plunge! It does seem a friendly club, Do you know if the moorings are available for year round use or are they only summer moorings?

Thanks.

Even as a Mobo owner I was welcomed there ? nice club, our boat was on the water for 10 months then a couple on the hard, some boats stayed out all year, the only downside is they are fairly shallow moorings and with some of the larger containerships coming up and down Southampton Water gave a bumpy mooring, so you needed to get on the boat and off the mooring pretty promptly, that said it was inexpensive. Nice clubhouse and bar and friendly people. SWMBO decided upon a walk ashore so we moved to Bucklers Hard.
