We are soft up here, we just get ferries washed up on the beach in your windsurfers weather.

I was the National Coastwatch watchkeeper at Rossall Point Fleetwood yesterday - at high tide yesterday the waves were around 5m (very rough) and the wind was gusting up to 60+ mph.

Even the Heysham to Isle of Man ferries were not running. A 6 hour watch with zero vessels seen!

I am a southern softie at heart but have lived on the rock for 10 years now. I think it would be fair to say this recent spell is classed locally as pretty choppy!! I feel for the exposed areas of Ireland and Scotland.

If your local windsurfers would go out in this then I hope they spare a thought for your local rescue services who would risk their lives to go get them

You have to bear in mind that BBC reporters & film crews would not actually go anywhere too far from a coffee shop or where there was a risk of them getting wet. Blackpool has a very long shallow beach that generally causes the bigger waves to break a long way out. There is also a limited fetch due to Ireland & the IoM. genuine Atlantic coasts did not fare quite so well.
