Big Boats

These are a some of the 20m plus yachts currently in Marina Arecife I saw wandering around there the other day.

Who owns these size boats,? Particularly the older ones. Must need a lot of time and money to maintain them and apart from the pink one don't seem to have permanent crew.

I bet new sails are very expensive.

Seen a few of these over the years in marinas in warmer places. Some people got big wonga.

Could well have plenty of room for 10 weeks victuals.... :D
 
I think the pink one is a Wally. Putting a sprayhood on it is like putting a roof rack on a ferrari.

The pale blue ketch looks like it could be a 1970's Jongert. Looks smart though so they are obviously on top of the chipping and painting.

I agree with all of that
When last I was in Arricife there were anchored boats .
Including a wonderful Dutch tug who did stainless fabrication for people . And s/steel was fantastic value and readily available to supply the busy fishing fleet.

The ‘marina’ was a couple of pontoons run by an ex Olympic Spanish rower and his wife, brilliant, lively place, a real crossroads of all the yachting flags starting to mass to cross to the Carib.

I also got v gently told off by the port capitain for parking on the old slipway to antifouling. Happy days 😎

It does look very different and perhaps less busy in your pics ?

It's been quite a few years since the whole marina development opened. Part of the Calero dynasty. I only saw it once before the thing was built. Its quite a size and has had good and bad fortunes over the years.

Shop units have been and gone, same with the restaurants but the cruise ship dock at the far end gets very busy during the October to March season.

The centre part where the big boats are isn't full now but that will change over the next month or two as the transat season opens. The smaller boat berths are rammed! I like it to visit but don't think I would want to spend a long time there. It can be very windy.

Worth a visit if anyone is holidaying or a good pit stop on a sailing adventure. (y)
 
When you see a boat that’s twice the length of yours.....it doesn’t mean it has twice the volume. Because it’s also wider, taller, deeper....it is in reality many times larger than your boat. The same formula applies to the cost, budget and wealth of the owner

Vessel finder shows it as a Czek flagged 20m but no make given. One of the others I recognised as an Amel around the 60 feet size.
 
Even marina Rubicon has a few nice 50 something yachts I noticed particularly the mobo in foreground plus a Pardo if you wish to splash some cash . Are the berthing fees a lot cheaper in lanzarotte which attracts?

I think compared to N Europe sailing destinations the fees are relatively cheaper. As always, there are deals for longer stays.

Big plus for Rubicon is that they have their own desalination plant and generator so there is no extra charge for water and electricity whilst charging similar for berthing.

Some very big...as in superyachts....pit stop in Puerto Calero for short stays generally over the winter. Must concentrate the mind of the captains!

I think it's fair to say for most peeps here sail boats around 25 to 45 feet. It's a big jump as Bouba has pointed out to the 60 feet plus in my piccies. There were more there including some cats of 55 ft +. So that's what my definition in this thread is all about. (y)
 
I should have said that for those looking for a classic boat I found out the one with the twin masts in far aspect is for sale at a reasonable price via Canary yacht brokers along with the the more market Hanse types in foreground. I don’t know much about liveabord in lanzarotte but a large mobo in rubicon marina would be attractive to over winter in 9provided it’s not the Pardo which seemed quite cramped)
