Beware! Water soluable phones

SWMBO never bothers to organise herself with phones/ upgrades and just gets suckered by the provider to take the next 18 mo deal and never knows what phone she wants etc.

Result ? She uses them, breaks them, takes an old one of mine, and literally washes & repeats.

I ended up getting her a Samsung Solid Extreme http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-phones/mobile-phones/bar/GT-B2100SRAXEU/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail

Waterproof to 0.5m for 30min submergence. Shock proof, Dust proof.

Bought it contract free from Amazon for about £60.

The Sound quality is not at that awesome, but so far so good !
Downside is the PC / Address book compatibility compared to a Nokia.

I may or may not of several times taken it and put it in peoples pints to prove a point that it is waterproof :D

Looks great, but "The software available on the phone makes it suitable for power users and developers only -- it is not yet ready for the general consumer."

I've seen one being used by an OpenSOurce expert, and actually, I think that the statement above is a bit OTT. Sure, it is being marketed at OS developers - but it is capable anyway. And it is basically a cut-down version of Linux on it, so it will run anything that is sensible within the confines of the display. But it really is for specialist applications; the people I saw were interested in developing geographic data logging applications for it.

Personally i thought it was a great idea, and if I had the money to spend on a "toy", I'd get one!
