Beware Sunday

That brings back a distant memory - in 1989 I was a young yacht broker for Ancasta who I think sponsored the event back then. I was tasked with going to Torquay and ringing the results back. All rather boring.

All you sailors pottering around the Western Solent tomorrow morning beware the start of the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes powerboat race at 1000.
1000's of HP will be charging along towards Hurst !
A worthwhile reminder. I happened to be fixing something at the top of the mast of Moonlight one year when the Cowes Torquay Cowes powerboat race started.

Not an experience I’d choose to repeat.

Perhaps my memory is at fault but I seem to recall a competitor running full bore up Paignton beach in a fog.
Pre GPS days.

Goodness is this event still going. I hate to think what the fuel costs are.
I have a new neighbour in the marina with a brand new 29' Jeanneau cabin cruiser. He has 2 X 250 hp o/bs which give him 42 knts and 120l/h consumption.
Nice guy though and the French equivalent of a chartered accountant.
