I needed a Baltic Pilot and not having a lot of time, and the local chandlers not stocking it,I sent for it using the AMAZON.co.uk website. When it arrived I found it was the original 1992 edition and I know there have been several editions since then.

SO BEWARE OF AMAZON, unless of course you collect first editions of pilots.

Hi
It's worth checking the details of the item you ordered they might have sent you the wrong item, in the description it usually tells you which edition you have ordered.

I know when I have looked for non sailing related items they often have more than one edition of the same book in stock.

Amazon list at least eight different editions of the Baltic Pilot.

You ordered the wrong one - I hardly see how that was Amazon's fault. I think they're wonderful.

Amazon

Sorry Chris, I agree with Nick, Amazon has seemed excellent to me, and I've spent more with them than I really didn't oughta have done. The 'wrong book' problem strikes me as very unusual - as Ruth says, it may have been an ordering one, rather than supply. I've also found them ok about returns and credits, etc.

[and I've also found their their secondhand/out-of-print edition service, through 3rd parties, also works well]

Yes, they are very good...

I've recently had several orders for software processed very quickly and efficiently by Amazon, at attractive prices.

They have some good ideas which other online businesses might follow. The instant ordering facility is great, and saves all that tedious entering of credit card details. Also, I like the way that their despatch packaging is designed to allow easy resealing for returns.
