From hoax slayer.com:

Update October 2006:
The threat posed by the trojan described in this article has long since ceased to be a significant danger. However, garbled and highly inaccurate warning messages about this trojan continue to circulate. One of these messages combines a highly exaggerated warning about the Bin Laden trojan discussed here with totally false information about a non-existent "Olympic Torch" virus. These warnings do no good and should not be forwarded.

From the Mcafee website:

McAfee Avert Labs HOAX Notice!!
McAfee Avert Labs would like to inform you of a new email HOAX.

This email message is just a HOAX, currently we know of no other message that the user will receive about the HOAX as the initial email states. McAfee Avert Labs has not received any report of a user's hard drive being erased by opening the email.

We are advising users who receive the email to delete it and DO NOT forward it on as this is how an email HOAX propagates.

Below is the actual text from the message that may be received via email.

So why did you inflict it on us??

Wouldn't it be great if there was some way of searching the internet so that you could check up on things like this instead of wasting everyone's time?

you can. Check with Snopes or any of the other sites which are for myth busting. Or in the case of virus warnings, check on the antivirus vendor sites.
As the others in the thread have already illustrated for you

I think it's fairly safe to assume that any emails warning you of imminent virus attacks are fake. I've never seen or even heard of a real one. How long before messages like this start carrying viruses themselves?

Re: IRISH VIRUS

Top o' the morning to yees

This is an Irish virus.

Please be so kind as to forward this message to everyone in your address book, then if you could just format your hard drive that'd be grand.

Thanks,
