Beta Marine with TMC 40 gearbox Fluid ?

Only information I can find is to use automatic transmission fluid.

Is all ATF the same or are there different grades?

I use Dexron 3 ATF which seems readily available from motor factors. AFAIK, the various Dexron grades are compatible

My gearbox,Hurth uses atf dexron 2 if I put dexron 3 in it the clutch slips.

Is your gearbox a TMC 40?

TMC40 on a Beta 25. Before that a Hurth50 on a Beta17. Both OK on Dexron 3. I thought Dexron 2 has really been superceded but I think I'd be happy using either.
Beta just specify ATF, I think they'd be more specific if it mattered.
Don't confuse ATF with transmission oil!

Thanks for the replies.I have ordered a litre of Castrol dexron 3 ATF .Surprisingly the gearbox only takes 0.2 of a litre so should last 5 years if I don't spill any

Was that just a double post or do you now have 2 litres of ATF coming ?
