An amazing thing happened. Someone at Beta Marine saw my earlier thread about the strange presence of a blanking cap on a Beta engine, tracked me down, and phoned me up, and suggested I might have a blanking cap there if there was a calorifier fitted to the system as there's probably a higher expansion tank.

There is a calorifier, and a hot water tank. Problem solved, I think.

Fantastic customer service that! I don't even own it, yet.

I have !! At the height of the metals price boom, zinc rose to about £1.50 per Kg, so a typical engine anode might use 20p - 30p worth of zinc, compared with 10p or 15p earlier.
The increased price of zinc was given as the reason for a price hike of £7 or £8 when I last purchased one. I now make my own from discarded hull anodes, new prices of which have also risen disproportionately
 
I got a complete one plus a couple of spare refills.
The 'spanner size' of the plug is slightly smaller than my original Betas but the thread is the same. Speaking to another owner, he says that the Beta ones he has just used also have a smaller spanner size but didn't know if the zinc was screwed into them or glued as before.
 
I've come across 2 types, the earlier ones from Beta, the zinc was pressed in. The last one I bought, the zinc was screwed in. The screwed type of holder had a smaller hexagon, 7/16" IIRC, but I don't know if this is a definite distinguishing feature.
 
Did you go for the 'refill', and if you did how do you get the 'refill' into the other bit?

If you read the advert you will see that the refill is for the threaded adaptor IE it screws in!!!

I would suggest that anyone with a glued in anode checks there is good electrical continuity between the anode and the brass plug....If no continuity then NO PROTECTION !!!!

I would only be happy with screwed in anodes.

Very true. I was thinking about the whole operation, as quite a lot of anode is left in the hole. Should have worded it better. Is it a matter if of scraping and filing to get the old out, or is it out with the blow lamp?
