I have a beta 35 which is rated (according to manual) as 35hp at 2800.

The side of the engine says 35hp at 3600rpm, which is much the same as WOT on my engine.

The 38hp engine is rated 38hp at 3600.

Why the discrepancy? Anyone know?

Also as a side, I'm considering re-propping as my cruising rpm tends to be close to 3000 rpm. I'd like to be below say 2300 at 6kn. It would be closer to 5kn at the moment.

Is it worth the change for noise and comfort? Or should I just be happy that I'm already able to push through a chop easily enough?

Many thanks

Mmm...puzzling. As you'll no doubt have seen from your manual, the 35 is essentially the same engine as the 38, which does rev to 3600. The 35 is definitely described as spinning only to 2800. The 35 also makes peak torque much earlier than the other Betas in a similar size range: 1700rpm compared with around 2500. Obviously you'd need to pin this down before deciding on the prop you need. I'd ring Beta with your WOC number and ask them: they invariably have time for customers.
