At last, I have deduced that my fuel problems are due to a diaphragm leak and have managed to source a replacement.
Due to its proximity to the hull side it is very difficult to access, and paint has covered the bolts that hold it onto the engine.
Angled mirror allows sight but difficult access. I do not wish to have to raise the engine to gain access.
My parts handbook does not cover the size of the securing bolts which I want to replace.
Any suggestions/solutions.

Presumably you have a complete fuel pump, measure the hole diameter for the holding screws, probably 5,6 or 8mm diameter and if hex head bolts - M5 is 8mm A/F, M6 is 10mm A/F and M8 is 13mm across flats(but could be 12mm a/f as its a Japanese base engine!). Other sizes you can find online. Or contact Beta direct - they are very helpful. Hope this helps.

In order to access some maintenance items on the starboard side of my VP D1-20 I cut an aperature in the bulkhead between the engine space and the headsand fitted an ispection hatch, approximately 300mm x 300mm. of a similar type to the one in the link below:
Above Deck :: Hatches, Portholes, Ventilation & Lockers :: Inspection Hatches :: INSPECTION HATCHES WHITE - Marine Parts Direct | Boat Engine Parts
If the architecture of your boat allows, a hatch like this could be the solution to accessibility problems regarding the "other" side of your engine.
