Hi all,

I've got 3 weeks off at Xmas (around the 22nd to the 14th of Jan). I currently live in the south of Spain and want to go to the Canaries to do some trekking - what better way then by sail?

What would be a surefire way of getting a berth? I have my RYA CC + DS and will contribute if needed (anyone know anyone going across then please do PM me).

I know it's the season for going to the Caribbean, so must plenty of boats going over needing crew. I was on a crewing website but never had any luck.

Advice welcome!

No surefire way, but I had most success from the Facebook Solent crewing groups. As a skipper I like Crewbay best.

Perhaps it's just a pet peeve of mine, but I will favour crew who emphasise the joy or experience of sailing over those who talk about backpacking, cycling or trekking at the destination.

The majority of boats wanting to do the Caribbean season have already left the Canaries or where ever they started from. Most go from Southern Spain to the Canaries in Aug to Nov.

Of course there are a minority who leave later so hopefully you may find something.
