I have consistently heard the same as AWOL, i.e. that white is the most physically stable cloth due to the dying process/cloth finishing process.
Since the mid 80's, white has been the "colour" of choice for fast boats. If you look at the Etchells fleet, melges, J's, TP's, olympic classes etc, white is consistently chosen
