best size,

As per the uses you state, I would say that taking cost of berthing & assco running costs into account etc, that anything around 40ft is just right, depending on the boat's layout of course.

That was ****.

Layout is very important,

That was a **** reply, so will try harder.

I find people want one good cabin and will settle for a smaller second cabin if they have kids or have guests just a few times a year.

If 3 cabins, 2 need to be of a reasonable size and the 3rd could be bunk beds.

Now the question needs to be asked,
on average , how many peeps do you have sleeping on your boat on a regular basis?.

Best Size

2 on average, and 5 when the gran kids turn up, they get just as much enjoyment out of it, and don't mind washing it. ( need to look after there inheritance )
40'ish as you can nearly alway's get a berth somewhere.

For general day to day playing.?

for those extended times of use.?
When I read that my impression was that you were asking for different sizes for two different missions. Obviously 40+ is in order for extended time of use. And maybe even for playing, where the ocean is concerned. But on inland waters good play boats can be a heck of a lot smaller than 40' !

Big it up.Innit

Depends where you are going to use it ?

After the initial on it every second Noahs Ark syndrome everyone you ever knew invitation effect wears off,bet you 99% of time in UK its a day boat, irrespective of size, with only weekends spent aboard by owner and family. 10-15 metres.

In the mucky Med you will need a bit more space to cram all those people you want to impress so bigger the better in order not to go absolutely potty after the first day of having to endure all those "interesting" little habits that other people seem to develop when having to share a confined space and you KNOW you will have them around you until EZY1234 gets them out of your hair and you can start repairing any damage and regaining your sense of humour.
30 metres at least !

personally i find about 27ft to be perfect - not all my family enjoy spending long hours aboard so i spend alot of time boating on my own. anything bigger than 27ft and im struggling to manage picking up a mooring on my own and the space inside is plenty if its just me but has extra room for when the rest of the tribe want to come along.

anything 40ft+ for me would be a struggle, which means i would lose some of my enjoyment. yes the extra space would be nice but not at the loss of the sheer pleasure of enjoying time alone without worry.

Got one in July what was that then Tim?

Princess V40 but too busy to play at the moment got the codeing completed at last. Things happen at a different pace on the Island .

She is on outdrives with KAD 44's hope the market for training on outdrives is the right choice for us , lots of schools out there train on shafts, me I looked around my marina and counted the most popular type of boat and decided on outdrives and Sports Cruiser same goes for some of the Marinas on the English side of the Solent time wil tell though if we have made the right choice , On a personal note wife and family love it to bits .

Size or what you do with it?

I like as big as poss but also like to go out single handed and do not fell I could take out anything bigger the 50 ft out on my own, so stick to sub 50,

Once I am out its ok its only the moorings that I panic but so far did lots of trips on my own and love it, Crew always meet me at other side !
