For years I’ve used an unlocked MIFI when cruising the East Coast, with a 3-network SIM which I found gave me really good coverage.
No cruising at all last year, and having set off again a few days ago after that year’s break I’m finding 3 access dismal. Any recommendations please for a reliable alternative?

EE seems pretty good to me, only patchy place I have found so far is The Rocks (Deben), but still good enough for web browsing, emails etc.

I use 3 and seems fine around the Orwell ,Deben. Sat on a mooring just above Boyton quay couple of weeks ago and I had to put the mifi unit in the mainsail and got a reasonable signal. Full strength at Pinmill

Very much depends on coverage in your cruising area as already mentioned. O2 and Vodafone are OK at my home but 3 is rubbish (or was, I haven't checked for a couple of years).

I use VOXI which is a about £15 or £20/month for 15GB or 45GB, unlimited calls, texts, social media and video. I don't use social media, Netflix, Prime Video or TikTok but imagine unlimited streaming would be useful. I do use YouTube a bit and have noticed Voxi sometimes counts about 50% as free. I think they currently restrict EU roaming to 2 months (without unlimited streaming and 50% of data allowance).

You could check out Voxi (https://voxi.co.uk/) if you have good Vodafone coverage and don't want an extended contract. It can be cancelled with 30 days notice or frozen for a period if not needed and is better value than going directly to Vodafone. GiffGaff is probably better value if you don't want to stream an awful lot of video. I struggle to use more than 35GB each month, even when getting a major windows 10 update for 3 laptops.

Voda good in Shotley, and generally along the French, Belgian, Dutch coasts; EE OK generally, no experience of O2

You can do it! It'll take time, which is frustrating, but I'm sure you have the determination. Best wishes!
