I know it should be in the lounge, but who cares

I love Real Ale. ( yuk to Lagar). Any votes for the greatest, I love Tribute by St Austall in a bottle not draft which is inferior. Any other votes, always loved ESB and Abbot Ale

I find that that most ales from the bottle taste nothing like the draft variant, and are generally too fizzy and less fruity. Ringwood forty-niner is not bad, and I'm also liking Purity Mad Goose, which is quite citrussy.

I prefer lager on a hot sunny day on the boat though, fave is Bitburger which is now available in UK supermarkets, as well as near the boat in SoF.

Agree re the difference between the bottle and draft taste , will try the Ringwood brand

I dunno if it's classed as a real ale but, in a pub after a funeral the other day, I was struck by the profound and yet somehow inappropriate thought that: London Pride is blimmin' nice.

Old crafty hen from the brewers of old speckled hen - a bit stronger, great beer and 4 for £6 from Tesco. Great value!!

Agree with you (and Paul above) that London Pride is v nice. Proper Job from St Austell also good, although it's markedly better on draft (LJS - still waiting to organise that pint in the Cherub...!). And although beer snobs will scoff at this, chilled Greene King IPA in the hot Med sun is hard to beat, for me.

Must admit I prefer my real ale to be delivered in a glass via hand pump and the nearer the pub to the brewery the better.
Best example of this is at present is the 'Idle dog' served in the White Hart at West Stockwith. The brewery is next door. I am not saying it is necessarily the best beer in the world but it does slip down very nicely . I do like the idea of beer being a local product.
I am therefore pleased to take the short walk from the boat when we visit.
