Best real Ale to enjoy on the boat

Hello mate, are you back in the water yet, keep seeing Hobgoblin but never tried it, will give it a go

Hi Paul,
Not back in yet, 7th March launch date. Can't wait.
Indeed hobgoblin a good pint and whether in bottles or even cans it seems to survive and still tastes a good pint.
Another beer I drink far to often on the boat is Old Speckled Hen and usually have a good few boxes on board as ballast.

Trying to recall what we were drinking last year in Yarmouth, was it Doom Bar?.....happy days..

Must admit I prefer my real ale to be delivered in a glass via hand pump and the nearer the pub to the brewery the better.
Best example of this is at present is the 'Idle dog' served in the White Hart at West Stockwith. The brewery is next door. I am not saying it is necessarily the best beer in the world but it does slip down very nicely . I do like the idea of beer being a local product.
I am therefore pleased to take the short walk from the boat when we visit.
.

When I lived in Devizes, I always was of the opinion the further away from Wadworths brewery you got, the better the pint of 6X you were served. The best pint of non-kegged 6X I ever had was just outside Holsworthy in North Devon.

It was indeed a lovely drop, not allowed much as have to make weight now re bike and me combined for 2016 season, so dropping a fair bit of weight last few weeks but still allow myself 1 maybe 2 pints per week, better than nothing!!

St Austells Tribute, in bottle (4 for £5 at Asda!) or draught. Most pubs around my neck of the woods sell it, and it is very very consistent.

Hook Norton -Old Hookey or Tim Taylord's -Landlord would be my favorites.
Been a member of CAMRA almost since it started.

Jimmy the Builder has it - Proper Job is truly wonderful stuff...

Also Jaipur (Thornbridge), Citra (Oakham)... for the real taste though bottle conditioned has to be it.. Summer Lighning (Hopback) or London (Youngs) for preference... and it's as rare as hes teeth in bottle form for the par excellence is Pitchfork (RCH)

Don't like lager, but I can just about force a Duvel down.. :D

It is brimmin lovely , RIP to the person, you could not have toasted with a better one

Thanks, Paul. The funeral was my aunt's. She had lived a very long and full life and died in her own home with her husband of 60+ years and her daughters all present. So, very much an appreciation of a life rather than anything else. The beer helped!

I know it should be in the lounge, but who cares

I love Real Ale. ( yuk to Lagar). Any votes for the greatest, I love Tribute by St Austall in a bottle not draft which is inferior. Any other votes, always loved ESB and Abbot Ale

If you like Abbot, try the Abbot reserve (usually on offer in the larger Tesco's)

Like many others I'm very partial to a Hobgoblin, and a King Goblin. I like most of the Wychwood ales and like to support a local business. I usually take a mini keg on the boat as it takes up less space, the downside being you have to consume the ten pints in 3days (hard life :encouragement:)

I will look out for Abbot reserve for sure, many thanks

Another of my regular purchases is Theakstons Old Peculier, this beer has been in my 'top 3' list for a long long time. 4 for £5 at Asda. (Asda rocks for bottled ale prices!)

Is Theaksons OP a bit like a winter warmer, I always find those winter warmers lovely but for one pint only

got to add, a pint of Yachtsmans ale in the Royal Solent always goes down well & I to have been a CAMRA member for many years, a regular at various beer festivals around London (GBBF) & the SE.... very much got the anorak and a very enjoyable hobby it is too..

San you get a bad real ale? I would suggest adding Innis and Gunn to the above suggestions or for something a bit different Fraoch heather ale.

Mini Kegs of proper headache juice in previous years. Now the boat is residing on the Deben, I can pay a visit to Woodbridge and pick up a slab of Adnams which I find is pretty good out of a can. Prefer draught obviously, but when there is a whole three miles to sail between pubs, you can't take any chances.

I find that Old Speckled Hen does well from the can or bottle. After two my lips start to go numb though :)

Adams offerings are pretty good....Ghost Ship (as already mentioned) is excellent and Spindrift in the summer.....sort of real ale lager! :)
