I am deciding whether to put on a Stainless or Ally prop for the weekend meet. What is the chance of hitting something, are there shopping trolleys, tyres, skips and bed springs e.t.c. like the Medway? What prop should I use, and is there a speed limit at that bit, or can you use blow up toys?

Speed limit 8kph
You're not likely to be bombarded with shopping trolleys or any of the other debris you mention.
Being a total killjoy I could ask if youve got a visitors licence but I wont.
As you are trailing and launching at the Oakley Court you might actually get to drive around half a mile or so each way....more a sort of social event rather than a thrash everywhere and use lots pf petrol type of do. Definitely very different to what you are used to on the coast/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

SO... are you saying that there will be no people falling over drunk, no arguments with raggies over anchoring, no need for tenders, no duty free, no need for the Porta Pottie, have to change clothes each day, no force 4 weather to contend with and SWMBO asking you to keep the boat still, not have to worry about Sea start, no refusals from harbour masters for berths for the night, and no waking up with a sore head wondering how on earth all those empty bottles got in your boat /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif SO, are you saying it could be a relaxing and trouble free weekend? /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

slow slow dead dead slow, would put a cheap prop on, as near the bank it can get shallow also sometine on the inside of the bends. If you can't measure 8kph its about 4 - 5 knts or just look behind you and see if you wash on the third wave back is making white water - if it is slow down.

See you Saturday

Peter

I've been up the river Avon so understand the speed bit, I just didn't know where it started, so no blow up toys I guess. My 45 gallon petrol tank should do the whole weekend then, no having to fill up each night! This is going to be a nice cheap weekend I reckon, I could do with one! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif There were loads of fleas on the Avon, should I bring my 12v flea killing light (like the kebab shops), or is the flea season over?

We dont have fleas on the Royal River and certainly not in the vicinity of the Oakley Court so you can leave your flea killing light at home too.
Please can you tell me....what is 'petrol' ?

I should foeget the 4.3L, Pete. Just strap the 3.3 Merc on the back, that'll give you all the power yo need. Otherwise you'll probably exceed 8kph on tick over.

Rowers, yes pain in the a***. Mind you, if your boats got a low enough air draft go up river past Oxford to the narrow bits, the rowers get out of your way up there - nearly fell off my seat first time it happend to me on my hols this year.
