Anyone know where the best place to advertise a boat is?

There are so many places differant boat selling web sites etc

Im upgrading my Doral Eleganti for another Doral the Boca Grande and will p/x it through the dealer but thought may get a buyer before she goes.

I hate the fact that you get book price and thats it, the fact I have spent £7 k on bits for it does not matter they say the prices is fixed.

I have found that Appollo Duck works well, I sold my last boatb through that site. Boats and Outboards seems to be a favourite as well as this site - YBW.com allow you to list a boat for sale on their sales pages (seperate from the forum).

Hi Phil,

What engines has she got and how much you thinking of?

I would also go on Boats and Outboards as that gets good response. Selling Private might be a ton of hassle for a few grand as the market is a bit quiet, but worth a try.

fair enough to see if you can do better, but do take a look at the p/x, and bear in mind you should expect to pay something for it.
In cold light of day, you might expect to have to pay brokerage and storage, and at this time of year, you could be looking at at least six months. Be very realisic, not very optimistic, about the sale price. The there is the cost of the money, either not in the bank, or finance, if you have it. Then there is the certainty/uncertainty of having one or two boats to look after! Add it all up, and it can be a fair old expense; Chuck in some "fee" for the convenience, and how far apart are you really? Still apart, I m sure, but not as far as it first appeared.
Its getting pretty late in the season now. The clocks go back, its dark.. not many people thinking of peering round marinas and yards in the rain. Worth a try of course, but you ll need to be very enticing I fear for much to happen, or find someone who has been actively looking for just your boat.

Phil,

Is that a difference of £20k on what you paid for her or what you think she is worth? In the current Market you would need to give most of that £20k away to get a quick sale.

Agree entirely with that. What's the asking price on a Doral Eleganti. £100k I dunno? Say you get an offer of £90k (only 10% under) less 6% brokerage + VAT = £16345 less than asking price compared to £20k less from the dealer. No brainer really. P/x is worth the small extra loss for not having the hassle of selling the Elegante privately. Maybe squeeze a few extras out of the dealer on the new boat to make up some of the difference?

just one other point.. how many of these boats are already for sale? Quite possibly, more boats than interested buyers, but I dont know the Doral market.

Yep,

Elegenti is a great boat but has a limited market because of only one cabin. Essex have had this one Here for over 15 months now!

At the right Money I think they are great boats but it is hard to justify that amount of cash for only one cabin. Not too many around though so they do still tend to sellthrough OK.

Needs to be quite a bit cheaper than new though! For a few Grand more I would get the Boca Grande!

I think because we really want the Boca the seller has us over a barrel with the vaseline in one hand

Wow, if you think that of him, then don't do the deal. But no dealer is going to give you top dollar for a trade in (unless he's loaded the new boat price) because they have to make a few quid out of you otherwise they're not going to be around for long

I thought that when I first took it out, but within an hour of having I loved it, I think its easier to drive, turns better, and in still water I can get it into some really tight places. Then yo have the bonus of not having to check the legs yearly, no bellows to go wrong there is nothing there a shaft, P bracket, and a rudder.

I really love the boat but it does not have an end cabin that I want.
I Know Im going to loose money on the bits I have put on it and I know the dealer will make more due to the bits I have put on it. The blue lights on the swim platform alone cost just under £1,000 and they wouldnt add a penny to the price for that.

Does ebay work?

Phil,

Ebay does work but only if selling for substantially lower than Market Value. It may however raise some interest in her and is a cheap medium to use?

I agree her size and agility makes her great, and her layout means she is the best entertaining boat of her size!

Hi Phil

I sold my T37 privately by registering a search-engine friendly domain name, writing a simple one-page website, and then listing the boat with Boats and Outboards with a link to the website that I had created. You could also do this by linking it from an ebay classified ad.

I got quite a lot of enquiries from people who had just typed 'fairline targa 37 for sale' into google, including the chap that bought the boat. At the other end of the scale, I believe Magnum sold his Princess 67 privately by paying for a Google Adwords campaign (pay per click) - I can't remember the detail, but I think he said that it cost about £1000. There will be a thread on here somewhere, or you could try a PM for more detail.

Cheers
Jimmy

Are you getting the Boca with Outdrives or Shafts? Funnily enough I changed my Elegante for a Boca to get away from the shafts, and go back to outdrives, and it was the best move I ever made.
Approx 90% of Elegante's are on shafts (probably because it is the 1st Doral with the option, and one of very few 33' boats with shaft option), but over 90% of Boca's are with outdrives.

>get away from the shafts, and go back to outdrives, and it was the best move I ever made.

That's interesting. Can I ask why?

dv.

I just could not get on with them, not sure why, perhaps the boat at 33' is too small for shafts (too close together or something), I just don't know.
Back to outdrives, same engines, bigger boat, fantastic handling, better performance, much better economy.
On shafts again now and getting on Ok, but boat is 50' and the props are huge.
