West Cork, sunny climate, great all year round sailing, plenty of competitive racing for yachts and dinghies, friendly people, accessible vibrant city and coastal towns, few midges and remaining in the EU will suffer a much lower level of deprivation.

And it has the not inconsiderable benefit of being outside the UK while still using English.

Good call. They even drive on the correct side of the road! Rains a lot though.

Partner and I want to move house - both work remote so have the whole UK to look at. We're both getting in to sailing and loving it; she wants to race small things and I want to build cruising experience and eventually travel long distances.

You have a partner who wants to race small sail boats. She is clearly a keeper, and you should 100% prioritise her requirements. So look for the welcoming and supportive dinghy racing club in the Plymouth area, preferably one with a female commodore and quite a high proportion of females in its racing fleet. Move to there and only then worry about where to moor your bigger boat.
