If International don't want to say what type of formulation ... Enamel, Alkyd etc. - then its a reverse comparison process .... look at Enamel / Alkyd and see what they are - then return to Internationals to compare.

Yup probably what other manufactures call a 'modified alkyd'. I don't know what that means, but think of them as 'modern oil paint alternatives' (without the oil!). It's the high opacity that makes Danboline, for me.

I totally agree. I can't see what difference the surface makes, apart from the mechanical key. Why should metal be any different to wood, or GRP?

My post was more about the formulation of the paint being similar across brands .....

But as regards the material you are painting ... that is a hang over from older paints where metals where a part of the formulation ... red lead .. zinc chromate etc. The use of the wrong type could lead to dramatic effects .... accelerated corrosion etc as the electrolytic properties conflicted.

Today its more to do with ease of application .... temperature range it can be subjected to ... wear characteristics ... underwater, intermittent submersion, etc. and whether all the environmental / use factors cause break down of adhesion.
