Hi All

Couple bits of advice please.

Firstly, what is the material of these velvety side panels? One is really grubby so I want to get the right products to give them all a full clean.

Also - one has fallen off as per picture! Any ideas on getting it refixed to the wall panel?

Not 100% sure, but it could be Alcantara. If you check EBay and Amazon, you should find some suitable cleaner. If you want to fix the panel permanently then use double sided tape as Fairline did. Alternative is Velcro, if you need to remove for cleaning/access.

Sorry contradict but Fairline didn't use double-sided tape, they use 3m dual lock for those (and many other) panels.

To the OP, if the fabric is original and you really want to know what it is, speak to Tockfield who would have upholstered it in the first place. It will also be on the original order for the boat, if you have that in the paperwork file.

It's Alcantara. It looks very delicate but I find its actually quite durable. I believe Fairline recommended a vinegar based cleaner but I just tend to use water unless the stain is particularly stubborn. If you need to recover then Fairline have old stock that should match (I have samples of all their old fabric stock at home).

Nope, the most common colour for those panels was a mid blue ('Oundle China Blue'), which I didn't like, so I had all of mine reupholstered when I first got the boat.

Fair enough!!!

Any tips for getting the bilge storage area in the main salon (bit that lifts up next to Kitchen) smelling decent. Presently smells like a stinky sea locker!

Thanks JtB, everyday a school day for me :encouragement:

I wouldn't expect a seawater smell in the forward bilge full stop! How would seawater get in there, weeping sea cock?

Thankfully my forward bilge is bone dry and having been given a bit of a clean after we bought the boat smell pretty fresh now.

It may have had something leaking in the past. It is bone dry now, just has a smell to it. More must than sea but still not pleasant.

Cool, mine was the same, a bit grubby and musty but fine now.

Regarding cleaning products, this thread might be useful: http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?483157-Boat-cleaning&highlight=

Cheers Pete. Looks like I am exactly in the same mind you were in back then!!!!

Anyway I have been so over excited about the new boat i've done nothing but go on this forum all day, and not running my business. So for sake of not wanting to let the boat ruin my business I am signing off until later haha.

Remember that the forward bilge space extends back to the bulkhead at the aft end of the mid cabin, so worth looking in there as well - beneath and between the bunks.

Yeah right!

Anyhow, I ended up buying loads of lotions and potions, some car stuff some boaty stuff. I must say I'm always disappointed with the boaty stuff (Star-brite boat wash for £15 or whatever). The (car) cockpit cleaner that Rafiki recommended seems to be quite good but to be honest my trusty 79p bottle of domestic 'Star Drops' seems to be just as good for cockpit seats. What I don't do is use anything remotely abrasive if I can possibly help it.

Despite that I think I could be tempted by bucket of August Race stuff (https://august-race.com/collections/boat-maintenance) as it seems to be highly recommended.
