Best non-UK yacht clubs?

I believe my parents were members there but we spent most of our time at the Aberdeen Marina Club. I loved that place! A real bargain aswell!

Bargain? From memory it cost HK$250,000 (£25,000 or so) to join the Aberdeen Marina Club. Still am a member of the much cheaper (but still has a pool and 2 restaurants) Aberdeen Boat Club next door, but no longer a member of the Royal Hong Kong YC. I never much liked the social side of the RHYC, preferred the ABC.

LYC
Langebaan Yacht Club.
South Africa, about 60 nM north of Cape Town.
Very welcoming, nice people, nice bar, but tricky approach across the lagoon.

Yes, friendly bunch of people.
"Tricky approach" - ???

Another candidate:
RCYC - Royal Cape Yacht Club, Cape Town - great "wind-sheltered" terrace when the South Easter howls at the boats just a few metres away!

Agree was there with a guy called Stingo who ended up with Wobblylegs :)

another would be Knysna yacht club with a scary entrance, awsome hospitallity and Klippies

Another vote for the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. As a lifetime absentee member (or whatever the correct title is), myself and family spent many happy hours there, racing, cruising, eating and a bit of drinking. 3 spectacular locations in a very dynamic environment. Long may it continue!

Yes a bargain, I believe they bought a debencher in 1986 for X and sold it in 1993 for a hell of alot more. They worked out from accounts of expenditure there over the years that on selling the debencher paid for the 7 years of 'use' of the club while we were there; food, drink and anything else spent on the membership cards. Good times, missed!! :-(

British Kiel Yacht Club took some beating I reckon for the Baltic although the totty at the yacht club in Marstal was absolutely stunning and seemed to be strangely attracted to short, stocky and very drunken servicemen. I wanted to jump ship but fell asleep in the foc'sle and the buggars set sail without waking me.

A lot of Hong kong folk coming out of the woodwork on this one. By coincidence that is where I learnt to sail, about a hundred years ago. Very fond memories of Shelter Cove, glorious sailing followed by barbecues at the club house. San Mig and mosquitoes.

Going back in May for a weekend on Impala 1 with the evergreen (?) Mike Burrell, all being well.

Well, I married a lady from Hong Kong, so maybe I should go and visit the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club when I'm in those parts in May!

Lagos Yacht Cub, Lagos Nigeria

Oasis of calm in a frenetic city.
Ogogorro beach on the other side of the harbour for hobie cats, day sailing only as no moorings and strong tides make the racing challenging.

Nearer to the UK, Howth is just brilliant. Passion for sailing, supportive of kids and welcoming to all

Aberdeen Boat Club

My Dad kept his junk there till we left HK in 1982. Nice old wooden one he shared with three others. Sails and all.

Remember it well as a lad...

Glad to hear its still recommended!
