Just wondered which marina everyone on here would say is the best marina on the south coast.

Me...... I love Chich and intend to stay there; as long as they carry on the way they do now. I have visited many other marinas and although I like lots, I wouldn't want a permanant mooring there. For example: Island Harbour Marina, superb location, atmosphere, staff, ship yard and bar but the amenities are c#@p. Salterns....... I think I own shares in it now at £57 for one night!!! but pleasant enough place to stay if all a little packed in!!

Where is the best in your opinion then.

Chichester Marina Gets 1 vote.

Lymington

Agree, Antibes or Golfe Juan.

S Coast UK - the requirements are:

1. access any state of tide, no lock.
2. river 6knot part must be very short
3. not way up soton water as it takes ages to get to open sea
4. excellent hinterland, town, shops, pubs, pituresque

Chichester fails much of the above. So I vote Lymington. No lock, hardly any river. At the needles in 10 minutes. Beautiful hinterland of Lymington town, and New Forest

Salterns

I'm with C_J on this one and for the same reasons.

I believe it's just about the most expensive marina in the UK. But still cheaper than buying a house overlooking the harbour - and you wouldn't want to join the riff-raff in Sandbanks, would you?

I might change my mind if anybody could work out how to put a marina in Salcombe harbour without completely destroying its character. Oh look; there's a pig gliding past on gracefully outstretched wings.........

Burnham on Crouch. Love it there. Plus i bought a Princess from the fella (Ken) who owns the Oyster Smack pub some years ago, so we remenisse whenever I go back there, lovely little village with a good cafe and LOADS of pubs.
St Katherine's is my second favourite. Superb ambience and always loads to see.

Hustler in Gosport. They're the best at hustling money out of my wallet... or did I misunderstand the question and you want to know which is the best from a service/position etc point of view?

Darthaven - River Dart

Staff are very easy going, Dartmouth on your doorstep and the South Devon coast and Cornwall for cruising. Just wish there was a detour around Start Point!

For me it has to be Southsea Marina.

The staff are great, its right on the solent and it has a really good bar/resturant

Some people find the access a problem as it is limited to +/- 3 hours of high water.

But, I find that that is an excuse to have another beer whilst waiting for the tide.

V8's rule!

Best marina for permanent berthing in which case jfm's criteria are spot on and I would go for Berthon or Hamble Point. For visiting, I like Beaulieu, Bembridge and Darthaven marinas

Best marina for visiting, has to be Falmouth councils.Right in the middle of town. Nearest pub about thirty yards. Fairly cheap and nice staff. Does get a bit crowded in the summer, but what do you expect. If the weather is rough you can spend some very pleasant time up and down the rivers, visiting the Pandora and Mr Newmans place.

I like Falmouth aswell, unfortunately too big for the pontoons, they make me go to a mooring, which I prefer anyway, more private, kinder to the boat.
