A friend is planning on moving from a rented apartment in london, to a boat in the Norwich area.

Does anyone have any idea about internet on board, in that area ?

ie which internet supplier has the best signal/ speed, and how many Gb pr month ?

I only know the Canaries, where if you have an appartment you can get almost unlimited GBs on a cheap contract.
However, living on a boat, and, suddenly you only have ; pay as you go WiFi.
Also, the most you can buy, is 6 GB pr month.
Yes there is an internet supplier in the marina there, but the speed is a joke, most of the time.

So I am trying to get the best deal possible for my UK mate, who knows even less than me !

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks In Advance

Really the only way to determine which provider is going to provide good service in any specific location is to go there and try it or talk to the people there about thier exeriences. There are 4 actual mobile network providers in the UK, Voda, O2, EE & 3 then any number of other providers who piggy back on those 4 networks. Some providers offer wifi access via spare capacity on landline home router, I think BT Mobile and O2 do this with BT landline services, but to make use of this there needs to be a locally accessible network. If one exists it could be enhanced using a directional antenna to improve wifi signal. So several possibilities but an onsite survey is the first step

Hi, don't know East Aglia but my experience in Plymouth is EE. I signed up on a deal week (keep asking at a store to discover when these promos come up) for 64Gb for the price of 32 which is cheaper than BT home!!! They chuck in a MiFi box to turn your ship into a hot spot (security protected so only you can get in) but theirs has an issue in that it turns itself off after an hour of inactivity. As a live aboard that's a pain having to get out of bed to punch the on button so I bought a TPLink version which is brilliant. 4G or 3G for best speed and it never goes off like a phone. I am in two sites and get over 10 Mbps (home 2Mbps so fast) in the first and 20mbps in the second. What's not to like. However.....as previous poster said, you must check the networks for coverage. As a note though, I left 3 after 10 years as they have the signal strength but rubbish data handling. Borrow an iPhone, download 'Speedtest' , it's free and just hit the begin test button. The bigger the number the better it is. Tethering on a phone is not the way to go as the network strangle the throughput if you dare to use it more than once a year.
