Best fish and chips on the coast?

Magpie caff in Whitby if the coast is mandatory. However the supposedly number one chip shop of 2014, also in Whitby, -the quayside is pants imo.

Don't know the Magpie but we went to the award winning one and agree, it's OK but not the best.

We preferred one on the front at Scarborough, can't remember the name but after an 8 hr trip from Grimsby the fish and chips from there tasted amazing.

I seem to remember there's a really good one at Hastings too, anyone know it?

Lymington High street. Without doubt the best in the country bar none.
Wooo.. sorry but that is rubbish.. years ago maybe, but by the time I have walked half way up the high street I chuck the whole lot in the bin.
Not once.. monthly. Actually, I have just given up trying to eat it.
Now, if you are 5 miles away in Hythe , the Marina Fish Bar on the main road (not the precinct)... nowTHAT will show you what f+c cooked to order should be.
Drive there, and you'll never bother with Lymington again. Get a pasty from opposite instead ;)

Probably about as far away from the coast as you can get but the chippy in Upton, Lincolnshire, would take some beating for taste. Everything is fried in beef dripping.

I went there for the first time last Friday and had to queue for an hour but it was worth it. Reasonable prices too.

I have to agree - the one on the high street in Lymington was pretty rubbish last time I tried. Soggy batter on a small and flat fish alongside some very average chips which were stuck to the paper bag wasnt what it was like a few years back.

My all time favorite is the one in Mudeford, Christchurch :)

Crazy, if you mean the one with all the bathroom tiles on the inside, on the right as you walk up the hill away from the cobbled street/quay, after passing the Kings Head on your left, I agree 100%. Fantastic chips.

A good chippie for sure, deffo worth eating inside to get them at their best...

Simply Fish in Brixham is very good, not much room to eat inside, but they do a good Sav Blanc and a choice of fish (not just cod/haddock)

For those who rate Rockfish, Mitch Tonks, who started the chain, is doing a session showing how to prepare and cook fish at the Plymouth restaurant this Saturday. Sutton Harbour are organising it and it includes some local charter skippers offering advice on when/where/how to catch the fish in the first place.

I've never rated the chippie in Lymington High Street either - always greasy. Now if you really want a good fish chips there, but it's not takeaway, go into the Kings Head just over the road. Real "man size" portion and takes some beating quality-wise too.

+1, I have never been served a bigger fish anywhere.
