Dubarry shoe for me. I'm very fussy when it comes to wearing shoes. got to be Comfortable. Find that most deck shoes have solid bottoms and to walk far is hard work. The Dubarry range have a soft bottom, don't make your feet sweat and the gortex one's keep your feet nice and dry. I'm on my forth pair.

Re: shoe row

ooh, i disagree. The best deck shoes are dirt cheap ones, cos they will definitely get lost. I asked the bloke at the boat show if he had any that would NOT leave blue marks all over my feet, so he sold me some brown ones...

Your fourth pair??

What on earth do you do to them! I'm still on my first! Absolutely excellent shoe though. Wouldn't revert to a non breathable deckie now.

Sperry Topsiders for me - assuming that they still sell 'em. 10 years on and they still have some grip. I'll admit that they are now a wee bit tatty looking with their non-matching replacement laces, but they have an air of gravitas about them. Rather appropriate, given my maturity.

I like the soft comfort of trainer style deck shoes and use Sperry Topsiders version from West Marine about $79 plus duty/carriage. They are available in wide width too which I like. Also have used Gill's trainer and Harken, both OK but Sperry have much better non slip. Ordered mine from West on a Friday, they arrived the following Tuesday, trouble is you cannot try them for size.

Just buy Dubarry, the very best ( no commercial interest). The leather is terrific in salt water conditions, the grip is superb.

I have just bought a pair of Sebagos and they are very good, can wear them all day then kick them off withut killing everyone.

Usually I wear trainers but am now coming to tems with having a few pairs of deck shoes for different occasions, next pair will be the new Dubarry ones.

not shoes but--John Lewis sell a woolmix sock with rubber lumps on the sole. Great on the boat and very comfy. Sleep in them too so when your anchor drags--or someone else drags on to you, you're ready to rush on deck.

I buy Clarks from their outlet shops around £29 pair. Cheap, Comfortable, good grip & they last well.

Why pay upwards of £50 for a posh brand name. I've tried Gills, Rockports & Timberlands. I reckon the Clarks are as good & less than half the price.

Have a Clarks pair - great value, excellent quality but not breathable. Also got a pair of Quaysides (the soft light brown leather trainer type). VERY comfortable and with a soft sole (Force 4 chandlery near SS Great Britain). However they do get a bit smelly! Bare feet are best if they are made of cast iron.
