Hello,
I'm bringing a boat back from Lelystad in the Ijsselmeer, to the Solent in April and looking for a cursing guide / pilot book.

Any suggestions as I'm hearing mixed reviews of the CRUISING GUIDE TO THE NETHERLANDS by Brian Navin.

Any tips and advice welcomed.

Thanks in advance

There's a better one, written by a couple, names escape me but one of the big publishers. It's definitely written for all sorts of vessel, but they are motorboatists... which allows you to read about places you can't get your mast under as well..

You don't need to fork out on a big book just for that. There's an excellent map produced in the Netherlands costing about 5 euros which shows the current bridge times as well as places where you can get diesel.

From Lelystad, it is possible that you will want to come out at the North Sea Canal if the weather is favourable, and a book would be wasted. If you are making something of a holiday of it and want to see the country, well, it is hard to get lost in Holland, and there's little you need to know that can't be found out by using your eyes and asking people.

Please could you post an image of the map front cover to be sure I find the one you recommend. Thanks.

Brian Navin's book is not bad, if a little out of date but it does give a bit of background info not just navigation.
I tend to use the ANWB Staande Mastroute atlas [ISBN 978-90-18-03815-1]
I also like the Vaarkaart Nederland app on a tablet or phone, this gives basic depths and charts and links to marina websites etc.
Are you doing this as a quick passage or making a holiday of it. Shame to hurry too much.

I'll have a look but it may be on the boat now. We bought our last one at the clubhouse in Gouda but it should be widely available. It comes as a folded map quite a bit larger than an OS map.
