Best Clear Protection for Teak

We have a new teak garden table and I wish to protect it (as best you can ) from coffee cup rings, winw stains etc apart from the weather. I quite like the new very light teak colour so I am wanting to use a soaking medium that is clear. I have used Deksolje a fair bit on the boat and some garage doors I made but that does impart a golden tint which I want to avoid. Any suggestions for a clear protective oil that does not darken the wood?

Don't think an oil exists that will do your job as by definition they evaporate and the teak weathers unless you regularly recoat. You might consider Semco sealer which many people use for decks.

I use this on my teak rubbing strake & handrails, 'Clear Natural' so that it doesn't stain the wood.

Don't use any kind of oil, it will just be a magnet for dirt.

I use Semco Natural on my teak companionway; it does give a very slight golden tinge (see pic for an idea of colour).

We have teak garden furniture at home which is over 30 years old and still in reasonable condition. I simply treat it a couple of times a year with Boracol, nothing else.

Coatings for wood are as personal as your favourite tipple.

I have gone from various oils to varnishes both solvent based and water based. Also
International Woodskin. My current coating is a mixture of varnish and Danish oil. It might be different next week though.

Pvb is quite right, all the oils etc just end up attracting dirt and spoiling the teak.

Boracol works wonders if you are happy with a lovely golden grey.

If you want to retain the colour, and a smooth surface then epoxy with a UV barrier is the only real solution that will last. It will not last for ever, but you will get 5 years out of it, but expect some work in the 6 year, especially on complicated shapes.

Even epoxy isn’t keen on hot mugs of coffee however, warm is fine, but not boiling hot, it will mark the surface, not that it matters unless you are trying to keep it pristine.

Did you retrofit the doors pvb ? Very smart. We use Semco on our handrails and toerails (we have Flexiteak decks in natural colour) but it does take a day each year to keep up. For Westminster teak garden furniture we use their product which with a cover over table and chairs lasts about 5 years. Same sort of idea as a Wessex 2 coats but it puts a coating on it. I guess it’s on Westminster website if of interest.
