Morning all

I was wondering what is the best butyl tape for rebedding windows!

There seem to be so many variations, some good for marine, some less so.

All advice welcome.

Many thanks

Paul

In my view there are just a few question to consider: How wide, how thick and, possibly, which colour?
Butyl is good but will remain sticky forever, especially in hot weather. So try to keep open seam thickness (which might get touched) down to minimum.

On the Nicholson 39 (which the OP has) the coachroof has a slight curve where the windows are (like most boats). The original window frames are screwed in place - not through bolted with interscrews. I've found it hard to compress the butyl tape sufficiently at each end of the windows due to the initial resistance of the thick tape further inboard. So I've gone back to using Arbomast BR, the butyl in a cartridge. OK it's messier and you get some butyl extrusion over time but the windows don't leak. However I've used butyl tape most other places for deck fittings etc. but most of these fittings are through bolted and you can exert some downforce.

Just my 2p.

Quality answer. Arbomast it is.

I used Scapa bedding tape when I resealed the frames in 2010 - not a single leak since. Easy to apply and no mess and fully removable in the future. Works well even with a curved coach roof as it is easy to compress. Bought from these guys:
