Besenzoni teak grills in pasarelle

After 16 years in the med sun the teak grill in my pasarelle is breaking up. I have had a quick look and the big bit closest to the transom is just held down with screws. However the narrow extending bit seems to go under the rubbery bit at the far end. Does anyone know the best way to get the grill out? Do you have to take off the rubber end bit?

I am assuming Besenzoni will want a fortune and some body parts for new ones, so I was going to measure it all and ask Watsons in the UK to make new ones, unless someone has a better idea. TIA.

Yes, the rubber bit has to come off.
Besenzoni will want a small fortune, there is firm in the UK that makes replacements at a reasonable price, it might be Watsons

Tbh I can't remember, I think it just clips on.
But, I will have a look at one over the next couple of days & let you know

I removed mine. Glued them back together and then turned the outer panel 180 degrees ( the end part is hidden and not walked on) sanded etc.

Came up well.

The teak is held on with screws. The end bit was not a problem to remove but I cant recall how The end cleans up with a magic sponge and rib cleaner.

Your end looks bad! Has someone painted it? Mine is all white "rubber" type material. The end piece will be some stupid amount of money!

I did that when I bought the boat @ 4-5 years ago - but they are well and truly knackered now. I will put some marine ply in temporarily while I have some new ones made as they are a bit dangerous - I suspect a foot would probably go right through.
The rubber bit I guess was originally white but as you can see what ever it was coated with has worn/abraded away over the years. I won't paint it with anything. Tried rubber/pvc paint a few years ago on a RIB and it was horrid - always sticky and impossible to clean.

Just in case someone looks at this thread in future, the rubber moulding isn't rubber it is some sort of painted resin moulding. It is held on by two cap head bolts underneath. Take those out and it just slides off.

just for you Vas, a bit of progress on the pasarelle.I have painted the end moulding with Oxiron - it's Spanish outdoor paint I have used on bits of metal etc around the house in Spain. Some of the painting is 5 years old and it still looks good so I thought it would be a good start. I have replaced the teak grating with marine ply for now as the grating was dangerous. I think I will get some synthetic teak panels made to glue on top of the marine ply.

I'm about to embark on exactly the same job, does anyone have a recommendation for an EU fabricator of the teak grating as I can't be bothered with the customs faff of getting it delivered to France from the UK?

The above did the teak on the cockpit of our boat and made a good job of it, also made new gratings for the showers in the two cabins. We don't have a pasarelle though.

They are not that big and fit within the luggage length on most airlines. I am a regular traveler with large cardboard boxes which attract no customs interest.

As an aside we are now in Vauban. I can recall the marina you were in.

As jrudge says, teak gratings are easy as checked in luggage. Easyjet allows the biggest parcels but BA size limits are probably enough for this.
A good supplier of gratings is kjhowells. They will also sell you a kit to make your own.
Those besenzoni end mouldings are simple GRP, not rubber and not anything else special, in my experience of besenzoni passerelles. Easily sanded and painted.

I'm very familiar with the model jrudge is referring to (Teorema was its name), 'cause that's what I've got also in my boat, and I've seen the end moulding removed when I had a s/steel rails extension fabricated and installed.
You're right in saying it's made of GRP, but there's also a sort of antiskid rubber plate glued on the upper part, which typically deteriorates faster than the rest of the moulding.
But I guess it should be easy to sand and paint it as you say, replacing the rubber bit with some antiskid material.

Yup I was thinking Teorema too - I've had a couple of them. Yup, the rubber mat is easily replaced either with a genuine part from B or some other rubber matting. It is just glued onto a GRP moulding. Easy enough.
