Had the misfortune to be run into (whilst I was moored) by a 45 tonne Oyster Smack at the weekend !!!

Is it possible to perfectly straighten a jib foil ? Have tried bending it back and managed to get the sail back on and think it should still work.

But the kink is still visible ? Any suggestions?

I'd suggest checking the furler still functions - mine is bowed slightly after an altercation with a wall whilst the boat was still on the trailer. I thought it may straighten when the rigging was tensioned, but unfortunatly not enough. Consequently I can't unfurl from the cockpit, and have to get to the bow to turn it. However, once unfurled the sail can still be reefed from the cockpit, which is usualy the more crucial activity.
It's on my to-do list.

What type of furler are you using? I have 2 or 3 sections from my old Rotostay available........send me a PM if interested.

Don't mess about get a claim in. It may or may not be functional in the end but the stress may result in corrosion in the long term,

Mine was the same in that it would not unfurl but would furl.
Bent it back using a work mate bench but still noticeably dinked. Will re-rig and check when I can.

Needless to say, claim has been filed. Will see what happens.

Also now have a sail to patch !!

I think that the chances of straightening to "as new" are virtually nil. The alloy will be slightly work-hardened where it has been deformed. It will therefore be more resistant to bending than in its original state. Attempting to bend it back will just tend to deform the material close to, but not spot on, the original bend, leaving a visible kink.
Also, assuming it's anodised, the anodising layer will probably now be covered with hairline cracks, allowing corrosion long term.

I hit an overhead cable .... and bent the top section about 45cms down .... only remedy was to cut out that bit and slide good bit down and join. Basically shortening the foil by 10cms. No problem for usual genny, but now means my oversized cannot be run up now - foils just that shade short ...

As another says - once bent you wont get it back again. Too much form to the foil
