Bennett trim tab not moving

Hi Guys!

I have a centurion falcon v 2008 equipped with a single valve bennett hpu. My trim tab wont move.

I have watched the bennett troubleshooting videos and tried a couple of things but no luck.

So here’s what I know:

  • If I operate the switch, pump makes noise but tab doesn’t move.
  • I can’t move the tab manually so it doesn’t look like the hydraulic line is not holding pressure.
  • If I hardwire the pump directly from the positive pole of the battery
    • I can hear the solenoid click
    • The pump works in both direction
    • BUT the tab still wont move.
  • There is no apparent corrosion on any connectors

Where do you suggest I look from here?

Should I change the pump? Or could it be an actuator issue?

Any suggestion would be helpful.

check oil level
you need to know if the problem is in the pump or the piston, disconnect the hydraulic lines operate the pump in both directions check for oil flow,
release the actual tab from the cylinder (actuator) does it move freely???

Check the fluid level :)

Take the pipe of the actuator and try to move it manually again. Bear in mind it’s held in the up position by a pretty hefty spring, so it needs quite a push to go down.

If you try the hpu with any pipe disconnected, TAKE CARE! High pressure hydraulic fluid can kill if it’s injected into your body..
 
thanks guys! refilled the unit and retested and managed to make it move slowly.

my gauge that show if its down or neutral is definitely not working though. I need to find the relay box i think.

at least i can use the tab!
