In my ongoing quest to keep Mrs Upcountry interested [in sailing that is] she has now decided we should take a closer look at the boat in the header. 1996 to around 2003
Anyone know how many were built, and how popular were/are they?
Cant seem to find many for sale, especially in the UK
Anyone own/sail one care to comment?
Would be most interested to hear.
Thankyou....

Not many around. Currently a couple for sale, one in Scotland and one in Ireland. Might have more luck finding a Bavaria 38 or 40 Ocean of the same era and similar money. More conventional layout but similar features.

Cant offer anything other than passing opinion; I always think they look a more substantial build than most Beneteaus, good looking too.

I second the motion on The Bavaria Ocean 40, it is a cracking boat too.

If it is the one with the centre line queen in the aft cabin I looked at one recently and have two negative comments.

The bed in the aft cabin is almst at floor level. My knees are shot and I would have had problems getting in and out of bed.

Engine access is very poor. [ Actually I have just had a look at the pics I took of it and the acccess looks good, however my notes show that I felt I would have had problems getting access to the rear. ]

BUT the aft heads were larger than many similar size boats.

This would only apply to the one I looked at which I think had spent its life in the Caribbean but the teak toppings to hatches etc was shot and needed replacing. It looked like it was just glued on.

I sail a Beneteau 44cc out of Fethiye, in Turkey. I previously sailed a Westerly Fulmar, out of Rhu on the Clyde for 15 years.
Last year, I sailed back from Paphos, in Cyprus, in some very rough weather and did not find the centre cockpit to be a problem. In fact, my wife and I felt very safe in the enclosed cockpit despite some serious breaking waves. I do wonder whether those who criticise the height of the cockpit sole have ever sailed a centre cockpit yacht.
I also doubt whether the large island bed in the 40cc is close to floor level - it certainly is not in the 44cc.
All in all, the Beneteau 44cc suits us well. It is spacious and comfortable and, as a cruiser, I have never had cause to question its sailing performance or its performance under power. There is plenty of wind in Turkey and, with a little practice, i have no problem manouevering in our marina.
Hope this is helpful. Incidentally, we bought our Beneteau in Mallorca and sailed it to Turkey, in 2007. There are more Beneteaus on the market on the continent than back home.

On the 40 CC I looked at the aft cabin bed was definitely low down.

The cockpit did not feel that high and is certainly lower than some other "bubble" boats.

It would have been a definite maybe on my list of possible boats as a type but that one had been rode hard and put away wet as they say.
