Beneteau Antares prop anode

Thank you Jamie.
how often should they be changed?
And what happens if they aren’t changed in time? My boat is in the water so will have to put it on the drying grid to have a look.

Change when eroded more than 50% so you need to physically check. If eroded completely then prop is no longer protected from galvanic action with the shaft and may dezincify. Best not to let that happen!

Thank you Jamie.

If you have the cone type be aware they do fall off from time to time. Mine did last year, this year I put a dab of Sikaflex on the screw to prevent the anode eroding where it is screwed to the shaft. Given how quickly my anodes erode I would guess 6 months or less of no protection would cause big problems with the prop and steering gear.

Thank you Jamie you wouldn’t know where I could find what size the prop shaft is do you?

Good idea. I do the same to get the best life out of the conical anode that fits over the prop nut. After tightening up the screw I completely fill the recess/counterbore with silicone mastic, not sikaflex as it sticks too well and will make it hard work to remove to remove the screw. The mastic in the counterbore stops the anode from eroding around/under the screw head which leads to the anode spinning on the screw which then leads to the screw loosening. This has stopped me loosing anodes before they have done their job.
